Nelson Mandela/Dr. Hosea Zollicoffer School book fair and back-to-school night
Nelson Mandela/Dr. Hosea Zollicoffer School is hosting a book fair this week - September 19 to September 23, 2022. The fair is being held in the library/media center, and students are choosing from a selection of books in multiple languages and other products.
Sixth-grader Fernando Galvez picked up a copy of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Wrecking Ball,” which is book 14 of the series.
"’Diary of a Wimpy Kid' is my favorite series,’" Galvez said. “The other books are really funny."
Students had an opportunity to pick up some of their favorite books, and there were selections from new authors as well. Teachers urged the students to pick a book before they went to the fun products, but once they had their book, they eyed the toys. One student got a poster, another got a finger pointer, and another got some art supplies.
The school also held a welcome back to school night and the first in-person parent, teacher and student association meeting of the year on Tuesday, September 20. Parents were able to meet their student's teachers, and they viewed the book fair to see what their children may want. There was a robust turnout, and around 200 families attended.
